One of the books that is given to the Business course delegates is Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon.

This is the Seth Godin pre claimed philosophy of finding a good idea, stealing it and making it better.

To that end last week on Thursday we had our initial Speaker Development day for The Campbell Academy faculty.

A little photograph of everybody is on Facebook on the Academy site if you want to see it. We had the most fantastic day at The Riverbank with some hugely committed guys who help work with us together on the Academy project pushing it forwards.

I had the opportunity to tell everybody about all the plans that are going on around the clinic and the groups associated with it. Beatriz Sanchez showed everyone how to present a Key Note presentation; she is the best Key Note presenter that I have ever seen. Following on from that we had a brain storming session where we designed new courses and tried to plug gaps in dental education that we felt we were well suited to do. Some of the ideas were quite extraordinary and will take us all the way into 2019.

Finally we welcomed Lisa Hadfield-Law. I was first introduced to Lisa when Charlotte Stilwell set up the Speaker Development days for the ITI, the concept of which was shamelessly stolen here and hopefully improved upon. Lisa came to teach principles of education and teaching a clinical skill to the group. She is an astonishing resource who was a huge success in trying to make us just a little bit better as speakers.

I’m not sure anybody else is doing Speaker Development days anymore apart from us and the next one is already booked for next November.

Three of the people of that course are graduates of our Academy courses themselves so we’re already at a stage where people are coming on our courses and moving on to become speakers.

It just goes to prove that the concept of ‘stealing like an artist’ is alive and well and reaping rewards in Nottingham.
