Steady now, one at a time

Monday morning, glass frosted in my office so in theory I don’t get disturbed and spending 2 or 3 minutes staring out of the window across the fields to the most beautiful of scenes as the sun shines on the snow.

Thinking that what I would love to be doing is riding my mountain bike over a track in the snow with freezing cold hands and then stopping somewhere for a coffee and a laugh.

I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning, I wanted to lock the world away and stay there and then do what I wanted, not what I had to.

Alison coaxed me out, reminding me “it’ll be fine when you’re up and about” and so, it was.

Like all of us, I know, the ‘to do list’ sometimes seems overwhelming and seems only to get bigger as we take one step forwards and two steps back but, of course, the trick is one thing at a time.

As we compare ourselves to the adverts of vast corporations that can do a million things at once, the truth is that we can only do the one thing in front of us and the trick is to choose the one thing in front of us to do.

“It’s the job that’s never started as takes longest to finish” said Sam in Lord of The Rings.

It was a nice view today but time to turn round and start again.
