Stay on target (again)

2300 (ish) blogs in and I know I have written about 'stay on target' before but I can’t remember when.

When I talk about this subject I use the analogy of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars flying down the trench (that’s where the quote comes from) he has to time his shot down the exhaust pipe exactly and although he want to fire early he has to leave it late.

We’re here now in Dentistry.

There does seem to be a little light at the end of the tunnel (even though it feels like it might be a steam train coming to knock you off) but the urge now will be to panic and to grab whatever you can in the early weeks to keep yourself alive.

The risk here is that you devalue your brand to the point where it’s hard to pick it back up again, be that as an Associate or a Principle or a Dental Nurse or a Hygienist or anybody.

Securing your personal situation, so that you can calmly assess the situation as it develops over the next few weeks is one of the most important things for all of us to do.

Everybody wants to return to normal in society, that means everybody.

The guys who came to see you before and the guys who will come to see you in the future.

They want to be able to come to their Dentist like they did before because it’s part of their normal life.

They’ll certainly want to come if their teeth are broken or their gums are bleeding and where before they thought they could just phone up and get in; now they can’t.

It will be different, NHS patients will wait longer because we can see less of them in the same amount of time for the same amount of money and so chances for people to step up, to access their care quicker or in a better way we’ll be welcomed by some.

Also peoples awareness of health is right at the top of the agenda at the moment.

Everybody's been walking outside and riding their bike and spending time with their children and perhaps we won’t slip entirely back into the situation where we worked ourselves to death for what?

I feel positive that there are opportunities ahead and I know it will be different but goodness knows it might be better.

Maybe it will be different to the way it was before.

“Making money till there’s no time left to spend, it’s all bullshit but we all still pretend”
