Something Different

The trouble with most modern marketing is that it's the same.

It's a race to the bottom in quality and the top in price.

If you are using Google ads or enhanced SEO funding for your advertising, you'll have to spend more and more for less.

This was obvious from the beginning.

One possible option to go in another direction is to do something different. If you've never seen it before, have a look at what Coors did here when they took an opportunity that didn't seem to be an opportunity and turned it into one of the most extraordinary marketing campaigns in history.

Not all of us are Coors, though. Not all of us have the exposure they already have or the opportunities to reach an audience as they do, but we can try to do things differently, show initiative, be innovative, and be human.

Every day I open my inbox, and somehow or another, there is more shit from somebody that I don't want to hear from that I'm never going to click on.

The chance of making it through marketing like that is so limited.

I did see something, though, sent to me by someone I trust (Luke from Planmeca) about something different Planmeca is doing to show you what they have, what they're offering, and what they're like as a team.

Some years ago, in the UK, Planmeca converted a relatively small van into a small dental surgery. They put a CBCT machine in it, and they made it completely clinically functional and compliant. They can drive it around to your practice so you can sit in the chair, take CBCTS of your patients, and have a look at the Planmeca products and the team that supplies those products. It has been enormously successful.

The Planmeca parent company, based in Helsinki, Finland, has now taken this to another level with an articulated lorry showroom that is now travelling around Europe.

So, if you want to see this, you can see it in different places around the United Kingdom in October, starting at Man City's Etihad Stadium on the 10th, moving to the National Motorcycle Museum at the NEC on Saturday the 12th, and then finishing at Twickenham on the 17th.

There's a video here of the showroom itself.

If you're in the market for something new and different and you want to see it face to face, including the team responsible for providing it, then this is just another form of innovative marketing.

I'm wondering whether this could be one of the best pieces of dental marketing you could consider.

If you had a relatively successful practice, you could actually put a surgery in the back of a van, travel around to different places in people's localities and do your consultations there before bringing them into the centre…I wonder.
