Shouting

It’s often the case that shouting seems the best way to get your point across, to be heard above the crowd. In a large crowd of quiet people, the shouting does often get noticed.

But it rarely changes hearts and minds, it rarely wins an argument.

So often I have told myself that the answer is to speak quietly and honestly and repeatedly day after day in the hope of changing minds and altering opinions, both at home and at work as well as society as whole. Far too often thought I am dragged back into the shouting, a strategy which never achieves much apart from exhausting me and distracting me from the real work at hand.

Shouting isn’t just verbal. People shout on Facebook all the time. People shout in advertising all the time. People shout in the way that they act or project themselves all the time.

Sometimes it’s hard to accept that the effects of your actions will only be realised decades away but accept that fact we must if we are to affect some form of significant change going forwards.
