Sab 4.0 and gone

By the time this publishes tonight I’ll be gone on Sab 4.0.

A year ago I never thought that this would be possible and many years ago I said I would never call them a sabbatical anymore when I had these times off work but now I’ve changed my mind and now (circumstances permitting) they’re here to stay forever until I finish.

It’s our Christmas night out tonight and we’ve decided to continue with it despite the current climate and situation and when that’s finished, I am finished and will be back on the 7th of February 2022.

This week as I’ve had the run-in to try to finish things off as best as I could, it’s apparent that I’m going to come down to land pretty fast and pretty hard.

I wanted to be able to take time off to give the business to everybody else.

I wanted people to realise that they are way past good enough to look after this better than I can and that I’m not really required all that much anymore.

In the space of the next 7 1/2 weeks they can store up some bits and bobs that they want to ask me when I come back but everybody here can look after everything that I could look after and can manage people and patients and suppliers and partners and building and projects at least as well as I can.

The standard question I get at the moment is “what will you do”.

I will return back to the stuff that I wrote about in my first sabbatical and at the end of that in 2017.

It was clear that my work had a negative effect on my health (to some small degree or another) and that is clear again.

I am not sleeping enough and I am not resting enough and I am not training enough and I am not eating well enough and in order for me to continue way past where I am now, if I am given the life to do that, then that needs to improve and be better and I need to focus on that now.

I must first look after myself before looking after everyone else and I intend to do that for the next 7 1/2 weeks.

If you’re trying to get hold of me, I’m available through Marie’s email address here. She can grab everything that you need and can point you in exactly the right direction.

I will be working on some really special things for the future of all of us here, probably though in enclosed silence in the shed in my back garden and I won’t be at work.

My emails are switched off and my phone is switched off and so, I’m sorry if you need to get me quickly but I promise everyone here can look out for it.

I’ll still be writing in these pages here everyday and Millie will be helping me out with that and so I’ll tell you what it’s like this fourth time around, five years after I started the first sabbatical.

I’ll see you on the other side and thanks very much to everybody for the support and the chance to do this yet again.
