There is a famous Billy Connolly sketch where there are two television guys (one sound, one camera) filming lions in the Serengeti.
For one reason or another a lion takes an interest in the filming crew and starts to come towards them.
He’s a distance away.
As he starts to make greater pace and with intent towards the film crew, looking at them like they were his lunch, the two guys started to run.
The sound guy drops to his knees and starts to take a pair of running shoes out of his rucksack as the camera man runs as fast as he can, looking back at him the camera man shouts, “you’ll never outrun him in those” and the sound guy replied “no, but I’ll outrun you”.
Sometimes, probably all the time, you don’t actually have to win.
You just have to manufacture a situation where you can keep going.
