Reputations and fee's

One of my colleagues sent me an email the other day and they suggested that their reputation was worth more than a private fee.

In essence I completely agree with that, and in fact have worked long and hard on that principle to make sure I keep that right, but it’s funny because that sentence set me back and made me start to think about that again.

Ethics is a section, that is the grey area between the black and the white, everybody’s grey area is a different size and a different shade of grey.

My reputation is worth more than a single private fee, but its not worth more than all the private fee’s, otherwise I’d work for nothing.

Clearly my reputation is worth more, than some of my “private fee’s” but not all of my “private fee’s” again.

I do love being a dentist and being a health care professional, but I also need to be paid for doing it.

Here is the greatest conundrum of our work, the way money inter-plays and interferes with our decision making, our career making and our day to day interactions.

This is not something that will be going away anytime soon, so it’s definitely something that we should all be having a conversation about regularly, if only to ensure that we continue to trust our perspective in relation to this difficult issue.
