Pedalling downhill

A small habit of watching professional bike racing (like I do from time to time).

You’ll see some extraordinary athletes travelling as fast as they can down the side of a mountain and when they feel that their speed is decreasing in any way they will pedal again to get back to 60 or 70 mph.

For the rest of us though, by the time we’ve reached the top of the mountain it’s probably wise to take the downhill without energy to have a little bit of a rest and to reconsolidate for the next time we’re going uphill.

Pedalling downhill is fine if you’re continuing to race but if you’re not, taking a well-earned break is sometimes a better idea.
