Jobs that are required to be done can be divided into the following categories:

1)Urgent and important

2)Urgent and unimportant

3)Nonurgent and important

4)Nonurgent and unimportant

Obviously, number 4 should be discarded out of hand and number 2 which should be urgent and unimportant should be left to see whether they become number 1 or number 3.

Instinctively, number 1 is what we do first but in the best possible situation we focus on number 3.
