‘Nice to talk to’

I was always the one who was ‘nice to talk to’

If you ever overheard two girls talking about me, one might ask the other if he was good looking and the other would say “he’s nice to talk to”

We have these little phrases in our language that allow us to say one thing while we mean another but everybody knows what we actually mean.

What she meant was ‘he’s quite ugly but he’s ok as a person’ (don’t worry, I got over it in time)

In dental practice, or in any clinical practice across any discipline, one of the equivalents is “it works in my hands”

In the modern world of dental practice, I don’t think this is acceptable and I think what you’re actually saying is ‘it’s making me money and I’m not interested in changing my practice because I have a system’

I think we all realise that that’s not acceptable anymore.

A little while ago I wrote a blog called ‘Blocking out the haters’

In there I explained how someone had told me that every time they talked to other people about me and my implant practice they found that people don’t like me because I decry immediate implants at the front of the mouth.

That’s not because ‘it doesn’t work in my hands’ it’s because I have looked and looked and desperately tried to find a system where I can do it predictably and achieve the results I achieve with other systems and I can’t find it, can’t see it and can’t get it anywhere.

Some of the best and most respected implant surgeons I know can’t do it either, so when I meet someone and question them about their practice of immediate implants at the front of the mouth and they say “it works in my hands” my response now is always “well at least you’re nice to talk to”!!!
