If you find you're lacking in empathy, try reading fiction about people who are different from you or listening to books or stories or watching interviews of people who have been through difficult times who look and sound different to you.
Once you have managed to develop a little bit of empathy and find yourself in a situation of difficulty start with kindness.
Kindness is contagious, it spreads like a virus.
When you try and use it as a weapon against negativity and difficulty, it spreads around you only to be reflected back at you when you need it most.
