This is perhaps a good adage to live by.
If you want to be better at something, it's best to surround yourself with people like you who are a little bit better than you and can motivate you to a better place.
If you want to sit around and not do very much and stare at your naval, watch TV, and eat takeaways, there are plenty of people who will sit with you to do that.
