As you get older, but continue to work, you start to sell yourself a story that wisdom beats energy and initiative.
When you're younger though, before you get to that stage of trying to sell a story to yourself about why getting old is better than being young (nonsense) you win with initiative, with agility, with high octane energy.
And so, the guys at the lower end, at the younger end, at the start, they're telling you that all you need to have is all the energy to go all night and all day.
The guys at the other end are sitting in their leather chesterfield armchairs, espousing wisdom (which is brilliant) but without the energy to implement.
The answer is obvious, isn't it?
It's always been obvious.
It's always been about collaboration and about harnessing the skills of one group or another and bringing them together and making something which is greater than the sum of its parts.
But in the race for hyper-consumerism and hyper-capitalism and in the trying to be first and be fast and having no time to think, we all fractured off into our own small, tiny little units and did the thing we were best at, at the time.
I'll be entering the stage where the energy will be decreasing and where the wisdom (at least in theory) will be increasing.
And so, I will be backfilling my lack of energy with people who have much more energy and much more initiative than me, in the hope that it will allow me to stay at least current and relevant for longer than I would have done.
I suggest you do the same.
