Humility and reality

It is literally just a few days now until I open the practice that I have built and it will soon be time to reflect on what I have (if anything at all) learned through the process.

There are certainly some things that have changed in me (and I am lowballing because it has changed almost everything in me) but if nothing else, I have learned humility and reality.

I remember the nonsense that people spoke about at the start of this project, comparing it to field of dreams.

For those of you of a certain age will remember this “if you build it, they will come”.

No they won’t.

This project will succeed or fail, if it is good enough or if it isn’t. It is not beyond the realms of possibilities that a year from now I will be looking for a job, as will all the rest of us.

This is some of the hardest times to be in dentistry, probably to be in business and by a shear stroke of ridiculous bad luck (or good luck depending on your views) we open on... BREXIT DAY.

It is very hard to be at the bottom of any market at the time of Brexit and it is very hard to be at the top and probably almost impossible to be in the middle.

But on we will go, understanding that the privilege that we have is to turn up again tomorrow and to go again.

That is the reality of where we are and within that is the humility.
