Many things were lost during the pandemic times as we raised as many sails as we could in the wind to try to keep ourselves alive and move our business to a better place where we might find ourselves after all the madness of the pandemic has settled down.

In our place we had to prioritise so many things and to decide to put aside so many others.

One of the things that disappeared was our podcast project which we’d ran in the practice for some years in conjunction with my great friend, Shaun Sellars, who was instrumental in the design of the Incisive Decisive podcast and his and my project in trying to spread a little bit more ethics and philosophy through dentistry and healthcare.

Incisive decisive will be back any time soon and in fact, Shaun and I have 3 episodes recorded which just need to be edited and put out there to add to some of the other stuff we’ve got to talk about.

Going forwards we will have tons to talk about and hope to put out at least 6 or more episodes of Incisive decisive a year from now on and forever more.

If you’ve got something you’d like to say on that podcast or would like to chat to us about then please don’t hesitate to give me a shout on here and we’ll make sure we include you in the content.

The last time we published anything to do with this was in the first week of the pandemic in 2020 with Simon Thackery and it’s time to get to it again.

The other part of the podcasting project though is The Campbell Academy podcast and we’ve spent the last 6 months redesigning and reinventing this to be able to produce material, at least monthly, from inspirational people both inside and outside of dentistry.

The first thing I wanted to do was to speak to my long-time hero, mentor and friend, John Gibson, about his mammoth walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats to launch The Canmore Trust in honour of his son, Cameron, who tragically took his own life towards the end of 2019.

The plan is to put 3 episodes out with John, 1 from before his walk, 1 from during and 1 after and the first of these will publish tomorrow.

The Campbell Academy podcast has taken various iterations over the past few years but now we’re settled on what it’s for and what we’d like to do and it’s really about meeting and speaking to inspirational people about the good things and the bad, about overcoming the tough times and how they’ve got to be so great.

John Gibson is an inspiration in dentistry, you only have to listen to his potted history of his career (and his even earlier work) that we’ve discussed about in this episode to understand how much he’s contributed to dentistry, much of which has been done behind the scenes.

He’s an unsung hero whose ripples have influenced so many corners of the dentistry pond that it’s hard to even begin to explain in the words here. We also have a question that we ask every podcast guest at the end and John will be the first one to get an answer from this.

It will be hard to think that anybody who answers afterwards will be able to provide such profound an insight coming from such a position of experience and knowledge and pain.

These podcasts will be 30 minutes or so long so, totally manageable on a dog walk or a short car journey or just at lunch time if you have a minute to do something else.

In 2 weeks’ time I’ll be interviewing Rony Jung who is one of the most famous and hottest properties in implant dentistry world-wide and I’ll talk to him in the middle of his 2-day master class at The Academy.

I plan to talk to Sara Symington who is a performance director at British cycling currently caught in the maelstrom of the transgender sport debate but also Louis Dunne who you’ll have read about many times in this blog who is moving close to his quest to become the under 20’s European champion in triathlon.

It’s not that we don’t have any ideas of who to speak to, it’s that we don’t have enough hours in the day to speak to the people we’d like to.

All the details for the podcast will be released here tomorrow and I really hope you’ll join us and contribute and discuss some of the biggest issues in and out of dentistry. We’re going to have a lot of fun doing this and hope you’ll have a lot of fun listening.
