Goldilocks again

Goldilocks tried three types of porridge, but she didn't want it too cold, and neither did she want it too hot. She wanted it to be just right.

It's not common to always have our porridge at the right temperature.

The Goldilocks zone is a philosophical approach to things that people have discussed for many years and in many ways. It's even applied to astrophysics, where they try to figure out where life is likely to exist on a planet 'not too hot, not too cold".

We can apply the analogy to ourselves, though.

What we seek is to live our lives in the 'just right zone,' but when we get to the just right zone, it quickly becomes the too-cold zone, and therefore we get frustrated trying to get back to the just right zone, which was previously the too hot zone, which has now fallen back to be just right.

And so, always, we play a game where we're not in the right place and craving to be somewhere else.

Understanding this is perhaps an important lesson to learn in the pursuit of happiness (whatever that might be).

Understanding where you are now, with all its advantages and disadvantages (and everywhere you are now has advantages and disadvantages), is critical.

Not celebrating too much, not commiserating too much, and not chasing the end of the rainbow, the just right zone that, even if we get to, we will only ever live in for the shortest time.
