Gave up a lot of my time today.
Time that I didn't get paid for.
I was brought up in dentistry as a freelancer, do a thing, get paid for the thing, move along.
That gets deep inside you so that it's hard to function when you see hours and days disappearing in work that you're doing, which is ‘unpaid’.
It only changes when you realise that a freelancer is just a name, just a title of something.
A working life where all you do is turn up, do the thing to take the money and go away, is empty.
Some of the best things I've ever done in my career have been unpaid.
When I see days like this and even weeks like this where I seem to be giving of myself and getting little back, I remember that it takes a long time to build a thing.
