Do you ever reach a situation, particularly at work, where you wish there was one day when you could have an amnesty to say what you actually thought?
Working in a customer-facing/patient-facing environment and having to deal, sometimes, with some of the ridiculous, hurtful and painful nonsense that people think is fine to throw at you to leverage what they want or to get a rise can, at times, be wearing.
Wouldn't it be wonderful for one day to have a free hit where you could stop and say, "No, it didn't go like this, and it isn't like that. This is exactly how all of us here saw it, and so it's time that you reined your claws back in and sat down".
We can dream, but it's unlikely that we'll ever reach a situation in healthcare in the United Kingdom where we'd be allowed to do that.
Shame.
If we did have that day, I wonder what it would be called something better than Free Hit Day.
Perhaps I would name it after one of the patients that this blog is actually about.
