Everything now and again

One of the most challenging things about having a wonderful and amazing sabbatical time off work (which I encourage everybody to do, and I will write an instruction sheet for this for one of my future blogs) is that you have the chance to do anything you want of your to-do list that you write on a day to day basis.

The real difficulty with this is that you want to do everything, and you want to do it now (particularly if you're me). Then you get lost in a world of dissatisfaction and clenching (clenching being that thing that we do to hold on to the good times without having any other good times).

And so we have to decide, and because I'm on my sixth sabbatical now, I can help you with that.

It's far more important to decide the things you're not going to do than to decide the things you are because otherwise you will be lost in a world of arcade fire and everything now linked to this, where your heart will be full of all the things you were never able to start.

It's a curse of modern society.

This afternoon, I will go and meet one of my best friends in the world for a coffee. There will be a little bit of work chat in this, but most of it will be wasted time. Remember what they said in Charlie Mackesy's Book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse: "Wasting Time With Friends is never a waste of time".
