Could You Imagine

Imagine most of the time you started work at 9am or later.

Imagine you finished at around about 5oclock.

Imagine you mostly had an hour for your lunch and some breaks during the day when you could just lift your head above the parapet.

Imagine you had proper sick pay.

Imagine you had enough holidays (if you knew what enough was).

Imagine you had the flexibility to work from home in your living room with your dog when your work allowed.

Imagine, regardless of how old you are or how well trained you are, you are guaranteed a living wage that had been decided as fair by somebody else.

Imagine your work paid for you to go to the gym so you felt fitter and healthier, so you could perform better at work.

Imagine your work would encourage you to do courses, not just in things related to your work but also in things to make you a better person.

Imagine if you raised money for charity, a charity that you liked and your work matched the money you raised.

Imagine your work paid for your professional registration and your indemnity.

Imagine if your work paid for you to enter into sporting events or new challenges that inspired you to be smiley and happy and to come into work bubbly to talk about your medals or prizes.

Imagine if your work subscribed to a company who provided you with healthy food.

Imagine you went to work and someone said to you this week we want to get this done and when you’re finished you can go home.
Some weeks it would be harder than others, some weeks you would go early and some weeks you would stay later, but together as a team you moved things forwards for the benefit of everyone. Shared the rewards. Celebrated the results.

Understandably many people reading this will think it’s nonsense, a ‘pie in the sky’ fairy tale and it would be entirely wrong for me to tell you that our practice is like that. However, our organisation is moving in that direction; that is our target. Is that the same for yours?
