It used to be we'd watch a movie, now we just seem to watch the trailers.
It used to be we'd listen to an album now; we can barely get through a single track without jumping to something else or shuffling on as fast as possible.
It used to be we’d read a book and now it seems that all of our knowledge comes from a TikTok video that's less than 45 seconds.
It used to be that we’d write a letter or sincerely tell someone what we thought or how we felt, now 240 characters is too many.
This year marks about the 8th year since I came off Instagram and Facebook.
I've been heading in a different direction to almost everybody else through that time and it feels better for me, richer, deeper, with more substance to it.
The fact is now that my brain just wouldn't cope in any way with the speed and with the shallowness of how most people around me seem to communicate.
I understand that I’m the outlier, I understand that I am the one who's going in a direction where other people just don't seem to want to go but it is a direction that I will continue to go in.
For me in depth, there is contentment and comfort and joy and so I'm going to try to read more books, not less. I want to spend the time that I would spend scrolling on the infinite line down other people's thoughts and feelings on creating a world of my own, inside my own head that feels better for me.
