Cinema Day Again

Cinema Club with Stuart is one of my happy boosters, as described by Tal Ben-Shahar in the book Happier

I try to make sure that is comes around once a month (at least) but last month I missed it.

I like cinema club with Stuart because of the following reasons:

  1. Because I get to spend time (when it’s my turn) researching the movies that are around to see what I would like to see the most and what I think might surprise Stuart the most… or not.
  2. Because I get to check out all the trailers and the cinemas around Nottingham to see which is the best fit for us.
  3. Because I get to anticipate what the film will be like, thinking about films we have seen before and wondering how Stuart will react when it’s finished.
  4. Because often, I get to go out for dinner with one of my best friends and talk about whatever we want to talk about as long as we don’t talk about the film in advance (because he won’t know what it is, or I won’t know depending of whose turn it is to choose).
  5. Because I get to eat a packet of Minstrels (usually unless I’m being super good) and drink a coffee, watch more trailers and then the main thing.
  6. Because I get to talk about it with Stuart afterwards in the car journey home and decide whether we liked it, whether we didn’t and what we thought about it.
  7. Because It often provokes a text conversation for several days to come.
  8. Because I get to reference back to that movie later when we watch others, it goes on the virtual ‘Top Gear scoreboard’ of movies we have ever seen, the best of which are (jointly) Captain Fantastic and Dalas Buyers Club…

So, you see, Cinema Club isn’t really about the cinema (well only a little bit). I’s about everything that goes around Cinema Club and the excuse that Cinema Club gives me for reinvigorating some of my human-beingness.

N.B. This applies to many other happiness boosters if you care to take the time to look.
