"Culture eats strategy for breakfast".

One of the main reasons that culture is so vital in any organisation is that we need people to be accountable for their own actions, and they're only ever to do that in a way that aligns with their team when culture is good.

In dentistry and, in fact, in many industries, we are sitting in the middle of a workforce crisis.

We're trying to get people to come and work the way they previously worked before the pandemic, and they don't want to work in the same way.

So we try to offer them more money to come, which is a self-defeating prophecy: pay more money, get more people, ask for more money, pay more money, get more people, run out of money.

There comes a point where money doesn't solve the problem.

There comes a point where the place that you are, the atmosphere that you work in, and the togetherness you develop get you through and make people feel like there is a soul in the organisation.

Culture eats strategy for breakfast. Strategy is the plan that takes you forward in the correct direction, and culture is the glue that keeps everything together and stops it from flying apart.

If you find that you are losing team and unable to recruit team, go back to culture.

The problem is it's a long-game thing. Three years from now, you wish you started making your culture better today.
