The Twelve Days of Christmas - Holiday Destinations

At this time of year many people start to look at possible holiday destinations and places to go in the Summer to get them through the Winter months.

There are two suggestions I am going to make for people and obviously these are generally in-keeping with guys in my situation. I am 42 years old, my wife is 40 and we have 3 children aged 11, 9 and 6.

Families of 5 are difficult for holidays and it is usually separate rooms in hotels. We don't tend to like hotel holidays anyway and I am not one to go on holiday with the usual 'Brit crowd'.

Many years ago we discovered Marina di Venezia this is a caravan park… yes a caravan park in Italy near Lido di Jesolo immediately opposite Venice on the lake and it takes about 40 minutes to get to Venice on the water taxi. At the height of Summer there are 20,000 people on this site, sound horrendous? It is absolutely the opposite, it is one of the most wonderful places we have been to and had amazing family holidays. We have recommended it to countless people and are now at the stage where we bump into people on holiday that we recommended to go there some time ago (my friend Fadi Barrack for instance)

The joy of this is when you arrive you are immediately on holiday, there are very few cars that travel around the park and your children are entirely safe. The park is gated at the front with wristbands for entry in and out. They have their own stretch of beach on the Adriatic Coast which is one of the most amazing beaches I have ever seen. There is a little man who wanders up and down the beach all day in his motorised cart selling coke, beer, ice cream or anything else you want.

When you are fed up of the beach you can go to one of the many beach restaurants for your lunch and then go to the waterpark in the middle of the campsite, which is fit for any waterpark in world! Wave pools, flumes, a 50m swimming pool! and spin classes in the water.

The food in the park is classically Italian, pizzas, pasta of the very highest quality. The wine is great and the ice creams are truly amazing. The park is massive so we hire bikes to travel around. We go for 10 days and they are the best holidays in the world! Look at them online and book it, we might see you there in the Summer.

The second holiday destination we have discovered in recent years is Northumberland. I am going to suggest you look at coastalretreats.co.uk for amazing, comfortable cottages (not cheap) but the beauty of Northumberland is that there is nobody else there and nobody knows about it. The beaches are staggering, the views are staggering, the historical sites of interest are amazing, the places to eat are brilliant and the general family holiday fun is fantastic. We had even had a surfing lesson on Bamburgh beach in almost sub-zero temperatures.

You won't get the weather, it won't be hot but it will be fantastic.
