There are times when I really, really frustrate myself with my inability to learn lessons from experience.
I first bought a Cone Beam CT in 2009 and I recently met again the patient who had the first ever scan at our practice. I can tell you that we scanned that patient with regards to a full lower arch and missed entirely, scanning apparently nothing. We repeated the scan later to get a decent view and was able to proceed with the treatment which he has had for 5 years and is delighted, but the point is that the first time we scanned her it was a disaster.
I got my new scanner in May and was beginning to get a bit fed up with the software related to the Sirona scanner until I sat down for 3 hours and decided to get my head around it properly. Having now done that, I believe I have moved on from the initial scanner to what is, for me, a better product but there was a definite dip when I thought I had made the wrong decision and wouldn't get used to the new product.
On reflection this has happened many times in my career and I had convinced myself that this would again be the case when we got the new scanner and accepted that there would be a dip but when the dip arrived, it was difficult to see through the other side of it.
I guess the point is: if we're not prepared to accept the dip, we are unlikely to get any better because as the old saying from Stephen Covey goes "If you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you're getting"
