Everybody wants to be a star

Recently in the station hall at St Pancras they have installed a piano. A cool little thing that would probably not be out of place on stage with Chris Martin and the sign above it says, “Play me”

I have been in and out of St Pancras quite a lot recently and it is now unusual for someone not to be playing the piano. Infact, on many occasions now there is a crowd around the piano as one of the passengers decides to play the piano because they can. I generally watch thinking “God, I would love to be able to do that but I can’t” and I suspect that’s what everybody else is thinking as they look on. It is the best form of entertainment which is adhoc and done out of the joy of performing for a group of people and not for the money.

I am beginning to think it is essential now that musical instruments are available in most public spaces for people to play. I would love to watch my daughter pick up a clarinet and play in the middle of St Pancreas.
