How to select a bone graft material for different applications in implant dentistry

Guys, I just wanted to bring your attention to our ITI Annual Meeting which will be held on 12th September.
There is an extraordinary programme of lectures put together for that day which is fantastic CPD for anyone involved in Implant Dentistry. All details are listed below including lectures and a panel discussion. This event is 'free' to all ITI Members and we would encourage as many of you as possible to come and attend to show the success of the association and also to mix with like-minded professionals.
It is also possible to attend as a non-member for a single fee of £100 (VAT included) which is an amazing cost for such a brilliant day of CPD.
Hopefully we will see as many of you as possible at the event and I look forward to meeting you there!
Prof. Andreas Stavropoulos from Malmö University will address the topic of ''How to select a bone graft material for different applications in implant dentistry?”
This is an amazing opportunity to use your ITI membership to network with friends and colleagues together with enjoying a fantastic scientific programme.
The event will also provide 4 hours and 45 minutes of CPD.
Be sure to keep the date free so that you don't miss out!

Prof Andreas Stavropoulos
Aim - to review and discuss;
a) The biologic rationale of using bone grafts for the treatment of intra oral osseous defects in relation to Implant Dentistry
b) The clinical effectiveness of different bone grafts and substitutes and a selection process in relation to the following clinical applications
- Horizontal defects around implants -(dehisence, fenestration, staged horizontal augmentation)
- Vertical ridge deficiencies (vertical ridge augmentation)
- Sinus floor augmentation
- Alveolar ridge preservation
Objectives;
- Basic background knowledge on bone graft biology, the categorisation of the different biomaterials, their basic structural and chemical characteristics
- Introduction to the current evidence regarding the efficacy of different bone grafts with or without GBR in different clinical situations
- Presentation of a practical guide on how to evaluate a "new" bone graft (what to ask regarding composition, basic chemistry, and what type of pre-clinical and clinical evidence should be available before clinical use)
- Presentation of different clinical applications where grafting is necessary, their indications and contra-indications as well as the factors which influence their clinical predictability
Panel Discussion
3 different cases will be presented by Nikos Mardas
- A deficient ridge that requires staged augmentation (horizontal defect) before implant placement.
- Augmentation of posterior maxilla in relation to sinus floor augmentation for staged implant placement.
- The management of a dehisence type of defect around an implant.
All participants will comment on the following;
- Selection of bone graft
- Selection of any other biomaterial, growth factors (membranes, pins, PRP etc)
- Surgical treatment plan (incision, stabilisation, suturing, post/pre-op instructions)
- Timing (implant placement, loading etc)
- Cost-benefit and other considerations
