Just a short idea and a silly little blog post.
In the practice we are starting to pool the tips that we receive from patients.
Obviously this happens in many restaurants and many other service organisations (although many have moved away from this and the management keep the tips)
When we get gifts in the practice of wine or chocolates then they go in a pot together. We hand them out regularly as a group and it will become more of a celebration than just the individual things that are handed out on a day to day basis.
When dentists are given wine they should pass them immediately to someone else. That has happened in the practice for quite some time (dentists don’t need free wine from patients, they get paid enough money) but if you put them all together and then hand them out in a celebratory fashion it makes another little happy event within the practice.
The other thing we pool are the vouchers we get from of the suppliers and these pay for a ‘fuddle’ in the lead up to Christmas. We shut for 2 hours and everybody sits down and eats loads of Christmassy food paid for by the Marks and Spencers vouchers we have saved throughout the year.
The final part of this is re-gifting though; if you don’t want what you get then give it to someone else. Don’t let it go to waste, re-gift.
The same thing happens with children’s birthday presents and even your own Birthday presents – don’t let things lie in a cupboard, recycle and pass it out.
Just starts to share moments of joy and makes life a little easier to manage.
