Managing mediocrity

I am a huge believer that happiness comes from excellent or exceptional performance.

It's difficult to be thrilled about mediocrity. On observation many of us (myself more than others) seem to stumble from mediocre to mediocre. This tends to be a symptom of the business and interruption in our lives every step of the way. The best times are when you're doing something brilliant, whether it is with your kids or your wife or your work or your hobby. When you have pushed yourself and achieved something excellent, those are the best of times.

The problem with all of us who say yes to too many things is that time becomes scarce and therefore you have to accept a standard which is less than exceptional.

Enter into this situation and you're managing mediocrity all the time which is heartbreaking.

Holidays for me are a chance to cut back the overgrowth, the inevitable extra things that come into life which don't add any value. This Easter, I will be having a particularly big cull, it's time for the forest fire to make space for the brilliant things to come. To stop managing my mediocrity and start enjoying exceptional again.
