I recently provided a new version of the ITI dental team course in Glasgow with Colin Burns, an implant dentist from that city.
Spookily, it was almost 10 years since Lisa McDonald and I provided the first ITI team course in Leeds when my eldest daughter was 6 weeks old. Historically, this has been the most enjoyable course I have provided over the years and Glasgow was no exception. With a relatively small group of dental team individuals and even 1 dentist who brought his entire dental team.
It is a privilege to teach dental team courses. They tend to be grateful for a proper structured course, which focuses entirely on the needs of the dental team and is not a course that is trying to cater to dentists and dental team members at the same time.
The course is always in a nice venue with fantastic equipment provided by Straumann to allow delegates to place implants, do dummy sinus lifts and a host of other practical and interactive activities. The overwhelming sense from a dental team course (and there has never been an exception to this in the 10 years I have been providing it) is the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism of the delegates present. Generally the dental team members that attend these courses do not have the careworn and sometimes jaded approach to their work that some of the “better qualified” and more “experienced” dental colleagues have.
If I had the opportunity to provide only 1 course for the rest of my career, this would be it.
