Last year, in conversation with Jason Wong, the Chair of Lincolnshire LDC and practitioner in Grantham, we decided there was a huge need for Oral Surgery training for practitioners especially with the impending new contract and helped to put together a Pathway in Oral Surgery course for GDPs which has been running all year.
This provides day long Oral Surgery teaching in a didactic fashion together with hands on days on pigs heads and culminates in hands on Oral Surgery in either Jason's or my practice in a Specialist contract. The first of our days is coming up in June at Refine Specialist Dental Care where four practitioners will attend, take over two surgeries and provide Oral Surgery all day under the guidance of supervising surgeons. We will be able to discuss and de-brief these cases and allow the dentists themselves to do surgical procedures, remove impacted third molars, even provide sedation and suturing, the best way to learn Oral Surgery.
These four practitioners will attend our practice on four occasions giving them four full days on hands on Oral Surgery and hopefully allowing them to return to practice feeling much more confident to provide the oral surgery for themselves.
If you are interested in this course we are looking at providing it again next year and it's best to contact me on: colincampbellfa@gmail.com so we can put your name down because we expect demand will be high.
