Competence vs confidence

An old discussion that we used to have back when I was a VT trainer in the early 2000’s.

A degree of confidence is essential to be a good clinical practitioner but it must be backed up with an equal amount of competence or more.

An excess of competence with a deficit of confidence is not a disaster but that person will not get the most out of their abilities.

An excess of confidence with a deficit of competence is disastrous and unfortunately I feel that, as a profession, there are too many of these people around.
