CBCT

It has come to our attention that the teaching of CBCT in the United Kingdom falls woefully short of what is required for people to be competent at reporting CBCT scans.

Some of the common ways seem to be to send the reports off to Consultant Radiologists but unfortunately these rarely provide a functional report which allows people to assess whether implant placement is feasible or reasonable and really we need to teach people to do this themselves.

With this in mind, we instituted a Master Class last year with Michael Bornstein, a world authority in CBCT. We are delighted to announce that Michael has agreed to come back this year to participate in the development of a full 3 day CBCT course split over 2 sections, 1 before Summer and 2 after.

The essence of this course is that it is competency based and we will be able to sign people off as being competent to report CBCTs. We will do this in conjunction with Sirona by providing delegates with 20 CBCT scans to be reported following the first section of the course and on the second part of the course we will be able to certify people whose CBCT reports have effectively been marked and assessed to ensure that they understand the principles of reporting scans correctly. In conjunction with this we will be able to show people how to use their CBCT scanners to their best ability within the practice and to maximise both patient advantage and practice profit.
