Rogue Male - Geoffrey Household
This was recommended to me by Dominic O’Hooley several times before I actually got through it.
This is a fantastic, classic thriller but with much deeper connotations than that. It was published in1939 by Geoffrey Household and is accredited to have gone on to be influence for David Morrell’s ‘Hunted Man’which spawned the Rambo film series.
There are so many things going on in the book that it is hard to give it a proper review of any kind here because I am just not clever enough but it is utterly compelling from the very first pages and takes us back to a life before things were as complicated as they are now.
It’s a story of survival, a story of being British, a story of one man who wanted to kill an unnamed enemy (Adolf Hitler)
It’s very emotional but very thrilling. It has huge parts of suspense but also some real human touches and the characters are very difficult to put down. I finished the book in 4 days.
If you have some time coming up either get it on audiobook (this is a phenomenal version) or it was re-issued in 2007. A huge recommendation, I will be telling anybody that I speak to that it is one to read and I will be passing it out to my patients.
