Author: George R. R. Martin

Book: Game of Thrones

Oh My God…this is it! I am lost in this series of books for the next 2 years!!

You know the disappointment you get when you finish a fantastic book and think that you’ll not find another book for ages that will affect you in that way? This is only ever framed by the feeling of elation you get when you discover a book that you know is going to make you feel like that, the song of fire and ice series by George R. R. Martin is definitely like that!

This storyline is absolutely epic on the largest possible scale and the characters are brutal and terrible. It is a fantasy saga set in an imaginary world of mediaeval knights and kings and princes. It sounds very childish but I absolutely, totally adult and amazing.

For anybody who likes any fantasy or mediaeval books, e.g Lord of the Rings, you will be absolutely consumed by this book.

Within 20 – 30 pages it has you and I can see that this will not let me go until it is finished. This has become quite a phenomenon, I think it has been made into a television series and it was recommended to me by Beth Reason, my usual book recommender and bought for me for Christmas.

I have spoken to patients about it and other people that I have seen reading it, everybody says you think you know what’s going to happen and you really don’t. The books are large – the 1st is 800 pages long but it is wonderful to be lost in something that I am going to be able to pick up as we go forward, probably for the next 2 years.

If you are a fantasy geek then get it.
