As the crow flies

From behind the start line, before your project begins (whatever that might be) you see it as the crow flies.

It’s a straight line from here to there, takes this long, costs this much, arrives at this point, returns that.

Rarely is that ever the case and as soon as a project begins it becomes as the car drives, not as the crow flies.

Try it on your sat nav sometime soon.

When the sat nav doesn’t know where the road is it goes in a straight line to your destination and as soon as the car hits a road it knows it increases by at least 50%.

Probably worth taking that into consideration when you start your project, to build something or to learn something or to develop a new skill. That way you’re unlikely to be disappointed.
