… No they fu*king didn’t.

It’s not going to get any easier than this. It’s not supposed to. It’s not easy that you have a job that you turn up to every day and try to be good, god help me try to be a bit better than yesterday.

It’s not easy to raise a family and balance all the requirements of trying to be good at work, good to yourself and good to your family in equal measures (or unequal measures as it may be).

You weren’t supposed to be able to please every body all the time. If that’s what you thought you were mistaken.

You weren’t supposed to be able to insulate yourself from the hurt and the pain. No one was ever able to do that for any significant length of time.

You weren’t supposed to reach a promise land just around the corner where ‘everything was alright from now on’. If that’s what you are looking for then stop looking and change direction.

For one reason or another this week I have had telephone conversations and face-to-face conversations with several people who are having significant difficulties for one reason or another. Some of those conversations were with myself. I know it sounds twee and pseudo romantic to talk about John. F Kennedy’s quote about ‘being stronger men’ but it’s easy to get whirled into the message that society and in particular American television shows, that it’ll be alright in the end and we can all live happily ever after. That thing that your doing right now that is worthwhile, it’s supposed to be difficult because if it wasn’t then every body would do it and it wouldn’t be valuable.
