All in and out of the safety zone

The thing about taking big leaps of faith is that they’re big leaps of faith.

The problem with big leaps of faith is that there’s doubt and the problem with doubt and fear is that it makes it hard to take big leaps of faith.

A couple of weeks ago I visited Simon Thackeray’s practice in Mansfield.

It’s great. It’s really beautiful and I was really impressed with it.

It’s clear that he is super proud of it and so he should be, but he spoke to me about how he went ‘all in’ to make it work and what he had to do to make that happen.

If he’d gone half in, it wouldn’t have worked. If he’d done it a little bit it wouldn’t have been as good.

When you decide to take the leap, whatever that is, it takes you way out of your comfort zone and the thing about being way out of your comfort zone is that it’s uncomfortable.

More and more in our society people want comfort. They want to put on their trackies and sit in front of the telly. They don’t want to be cold and they don’t want to be hot. They don’t want to be hungry and they don’t want to be tired.

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy and nothing is ever gained from living forever in the safety zone. Trying to insulate yourself from the ups and downs and bumps and bangs of life.

The minute I find myself in my safety zone, I push out of it.

The minute I stop doing that, it’s time to watch Sky TV and rot.
