From about a year ago when we first booked the Rony Jung master class I was looking forward to that week with the most enormous anticipation.
Not just because I was able to participate in extraordinary and high development CPD 4 minutes from my house in my own place but more to be able to spend immersive time with someone who’s at the very peak of their powers in world implant dentistry.
I hoped I wouldn’t be disappointed.
I hoped I wouldn’t meet someone properly and do that thing where they’re not what I expected.
I didn’t and I wasn’t.
Rony Jung is the most extraordinary individual, someone who’s managed to harness surgery and restorative dentistry to the highest possible level but then also to disrupt research in implant dentistry to create knowledge that never existed.
He’s also the most exceptional and personable lecturer and teacher who gives of himself so much in order to facilitate learning for other people for the benefit of their patients.
He takes referrals from all over the world including royalty from various countries and he also strategically runs the University of Zürich Centre for Reconstruction dentistry and is in charge of building their new dental school.
He sits on the board of so many different implant organisations, is happily married and has 3 children.
For 12 years he played for the club Grasshopper in Switzerland and won 2 swiss championships when he was a lad.
Rony would tell you that he’s never succeeded at anything and he’s always failed at everything that he’s tried and then moved onto something else.
He is humble beyond belief but he’s generous and warm and as I watched him with all the delegates that we had (who realised the enormous privilege of what they were seeing for someone who only usually stands up for 30 minutes at congresses) he wanted to know about them.
He would ask about their practices, their families, their interests. He is a truly amazing individual.
Over the years here, we’ve met several people like this (Michael Bornstein is the first one who springs to mind) and we’ve tried to facilitate the introduction of these people to our colleagues in the UK to inspire them and to make them better.
There is no one who has attended the Rony Jung course who’s practising life has not been fundamentally changed and improved because of the experience (and that includes mine and Andy’s and Alex’ and Beatriz, all of whom were on the course from our place).
Rony is coming back next year and although I’ve not entirely decided with him what he’ll present (and it may be the same course again for people who missed it) we’ll be working together for years to come now to help bring a little bit of the absolute magic of Rony and Zürich to England once a year.
Keep in touch because we will only ever have 18 people in that room and we’ll never stream it because that would then lose the specialness of the whole process but what we will do is bit by bit and drip by drip positively influence as many people as we can and as many patients as we can through the Rony Jung effect.
Rony, thank you so much for coming. It honestly was a privilege.
