Martin Amis (the extraordinarily gifted and acclaimed author) suggests that all anyone needs to do is ‘leave behind a shelf of books to say’ “from here to here is me”.
Impossible if we’re not an author but if we understand the metaphor, we get it.
We’re only here for a short while and ultimately what we leave behind is more important than what we do today.
