A few questions you might want to answer about running your own dental business are listed below, in no particular order:

  1. Delegation is fantastic and abdication is toxic and the death of a business. Do you know the difference?
  2. Operating surgery cost per day (OSCPD) is one of the most important numbers in dentistry. Do you know what it is and how to calculate it?
  3. The associate profitability calculation number (new to us) is perhaps the most important number in dentistry. Do you know how to calculate it?
  4. Do you have a framework to measure the efficiency of your practice on a financial and occupancy basis month on month that gets delivered to you in a one-hour meeting? If not – why not?
  5. Do you have an organisational structure?
  6. Do you know how much to spend on marketing, where to spend it and how much to expect back to see if it’s worth it?
  7. Any idea what leadership even means?
  8. Do you do structured performance reviews for your clinicians every year, presenting them with the numbers that you expect them to get and getting sign up so that you can set a proper budget?
  9. Do you set a proper budget where you can predict your turnover within 5%?
  10. Do you do all of these things but do them yourself so that you have no time left to do anything else?
  11. Most importantly…. do you know what your business is for and do the people who work for you know what it’s for? Setting that up first is a really good start.

The Campbell Academy Business Course – Creating The Modern Independent Dental Practice starts in February 2019.

There are five places left out of the twelve.

It includes a place for the Principal and a place for the person the Principal will delegate the majority of this work to (the Managing Director, Practice Manager, General Manager or whatever you want to call them) you’re also able to bring specific team members on specific days who will be responsible for some of the other work.

It won’t be like any other course you’ve ever been on before and you will make friends who will stay with you for the rest of your career.

You’ll have to share personal experiences and be open and honest in a safe environment.

You’ll have to work really, really hard. There are projects to do, blogs to submit, discussions to have and responsibilities to take.

It’s definitely not for everyone. It's just for the people who want to want to create an amazing independent dental practice for years to come.

If you want to come, come in but come in with your eyes open with what’s expected of you and you will create something remarkable.

If you want to speak to someone else who’s done it then let us know.
