It's from Janice Turner from The Times and this is a lesson for life that I learned years ago and stick to religiously or at least as religiously as I can ‘don't trust people who are carelessly rude to waiters - they are always dicks’.

This is a horrible and distasteful side effect of somebody who thinks they are better than everybody else, better than the ‘serving class’.

Maybe everybody should have worked as a waiter (I certainly did).

Only when you've done that do you realise how horrible it is to come up against someone like that?

If you're prepared to be carelessly horrible to the people who are bringing you something to eat, who else are you prepared to be carelessly horrible to?
