The April movie was The Sisters Brothers.
This is the first English language movie directed by Jacques Audiard, he has won many awards and plaudits for his film making and is the son of the director and screenwriter. This is his first sorte into English language from French.
He managed to secure John C.Reilly (who also produced it and is better known for his work with Will Ferrell and Joaquin Phoenix who everybody knows as the joker where he won an academy award).
The Sisters Brothers was recommended to me by one of my patients who works in the film industry and is a curious and wonderful film about two cowboy assassins (Reilly and Phoenix) who are due to link up with a private investigator to kill their pray.
It rambles and the plot isn’t entirely straight lined but it all looks beautiful and sounds beautiful and is darkly funny in places.
I loved it and it was a joy to watch and is based on the book which has the same name from 2011 written by Patrick deWitt.
In a year of 12 for 21, where I’ve not listened to a new album that I can remember yet and I’m struggling with hardcopy books but I’m just managing to scrape the audiobooks and I’m smashing the films out.
This month it’s Stuarts turn and we go into a cinema so we’re back to the original format for cinema club that we haven’t managed since February or March last year.
This film was recommended to me by somebody who knows much more about movies than me and I recommend it to you.
