12 Days of Christmas Part 9 - Cinema Club

I wrote previously about Insanity Muscle club as apart of the 13 days of Christmas and a thing that had helped me see one of my best friends more regularly and also to get a little bit fitter.

Bizarrely Insanity Muscle was based around the principle of Cinema club which I have written about in my blog many times before.

Cinema club started in 2011 with one of my best friend's, Stuart.

Stuart was one of the dads at school and so was I and we decided at one point to go to the cinema to see a film that we both wanted to see.

We soon realised that we were both on the same kind of level, liking the same kind of things and during that time I was starting to write the blog and I wanted to write about films that I had seen, and so… Cinema club was born.

Cinema club is the first Monday of every month, unless we change it for family reasons or work reasons.

It works like this.

  1. If it is your turn to pick, you pick the movie and buy the tickets (that includes showing films in your own house if you’re skint or if family commitments make that happen).
  2. The other person never knows what film it is until the film starts (generally Stuart and I will cover our faces at the classification screen in the cinema so we don’t know what it is).
  3. If it is not your turn to buy the tickets, you buy the treats, generally this includes, one packet of sweets for Stuart (£1) and one packet of Minstrels for me (£1, always Minstrels).
  4. We usually have a cup of tea at the cinema with our sweets.
  5. There are two members of the cinema club, there is an unlimited waiting list, but only ever two members.
  6. You never talk about Cinema Club.

We have watched some of the most extraordinary films including recently; Joker, Dallas buyers club, Captain Fantastic.

We have seen some of the worst films imaginable, including Sour Grapes (terrible). But it is not about that.

After cinema club we go home, park the car and take my dog for a walk and catch up.

This is 8 years old now and still going strong, we try to get 12 films a year and don’t always succeed but we get pretty close.

Insanity Muscle, Cinema club, whatever you want to call it, is happiness.
