I decided to start a career in implant dentistry as I was looking for a new challenge. I had always enjoyed the surgical side of dentistry and wanted to develop my surgical skills.

Having completed several Restorative courses over the years, I was regularly doing large cases on patients. However, having to refer the implant work out, I decided to see if providing both restorative and surgical care to my patients was feasible. I'm happy to say it was one of the best decisions I've made.

Undertaking dental implant training has made a significant impact on my life. I have found friends for life and have been inspired by many wonderful colleagues and clinicians.

It has made me more confident in all aspects of my dentistry and has reignited my passion for my work. It’s shown me that I can push myself out of my comfort zone and rise to that challenge.

Do your research. Find a course that suits the type of dentist you are and fits your learning style and ethics- this is probably the most important thing.

Try and build a network of colleagues at a similar level to you who you are happy to be honest and open with to discuss what’s gone well and what’s not gone so well.

Be prepared to invest your time and money; it’s hard to do around work and family commitments, but the rewards are worth it.
