Under new management

On the same bike ride that I wrote about yesterday in What now? (it was a very productive philosophical bike ride), I saw an ‘under new management’ sign. I haven't seen one of those for ages and ages and ages, and it's a really interesting definition or proclamation or statement made by a business.

It means we're getting better now than we were before.

It means there are new ideas, and we're more dynamic and committed and ambitious.

It means that it may have been OK here before or even not very good, but it isn't now; it's better, and it's going to get better, and it's going to be truly wonderful.

It's a promise that this is great and you have to keep that promise.

It's a story that we tell people as we want them to come and grab the services that we're offering to solve their problems.

It's probably good, though, to be under ‘new management’ all the time.

Even if you've been in the same place for 30 years, or even owned it for 30 years, it's always possible to have the attitude of under new management.
