It's worth doing this again… and again and again.
We all want to be a part of a tribe.
I was chatting to one of my friends today who lifts weights and goes to the gym. He's part of an extraordinary little group that's formed where he lives, where guys get together early on a Friday morning, and do weights and talk to each other about stuff. It's been running for a while now, and it's getting bigger because people understand that it's a safe place to be, and people are kind, and you can share your thoughts with someone else.
They decided it's time for merch, and the instructor guy who looks after them is going to be away for a little while, and so my friend has decided to train as a PT level 2, so that he's able to just be around, so the session can continue. Not to train anyone, just to facilitate.
That's what happens in tribes.
It turns out everyone wants to be part of a tribe; it turns out people are finding it harder and harder.
So, it turns out people are finding it harder and harder to find their tribe. Back in the pre-digital days, it was easy because the only way you had to communicate was to speak; it's much harder because it's easy to abdicate responsibility for forming a tribe or for being part of it.
It's easy to pay for your shopping without speaking to anyone.
All crises, all disasters to create an opportunity. The lack of ability to be part of a face-to-face tribe is an extraordinary opportunity, because if you can build a tribelike the one I mentioned above, which my friend has worked with, it's a special thing.
I joke now about people who play paddle or reformer Pilates, or hyrox, or CrossFit, or any of these things being a cult, but I was in a triathlon, which was the ultimate tribe/cult.
We all want to wear the t-shirt that says, we're part of a team, go and form your team.
