The point of technology (or so it was sold to us) was to make us more human.
The vacuum cleaner would save us time to allow us more leisure (whatever that meant).
With all of the jobs around the house being replaced by washing machines and dryers and blenders and robot lawnmowers and hoovers we would be free to spend our time however we chose, living a full life.
Sadly, that has not been the case for so many people.
The technology that came along to serve us quickly became our master.
It’s not too late though.
There are still countless examples of where the use of technology has freed us up to allow us to be more human.
In our practice everything pre appointment is completed by the robot.
It means the patients who walk in the door are greeted face-to-face by someone who is pleased to see them and is not distracted by a phone or a computer screen that they don’t look up from.
It now means that patients who have a problem get straight through to someone who is clinically trained to deal with that problem and prioritise their care as quickly as possible.
It means the clinicians can direct people who are fantastic on the phone and caring and empathic to phone patients and to follow-up plans and consultations and surgeries and just any concerns that they may have in a way that means almost no one gets lost.
If it’s done properly taking 50% of someone’s time in repetitive tasks and admin and giving it to the robot gives them 100% of their time to be human.
