The Story Wheel

The story wheel concept originated, (I think) from The Hero with a Thousand Faces, the book by Joseph Campbell.

In essence, the theory is that all stories fit into the format of the story wheel.

Imagine a clock. Hero starts out at 12 o'clock, the sky is bright, high hopes, etc., etc. By 6 o'clock, it's dark, no end in sight. Everything's going wrong, only for the hero to pull things around in the second half of the clock, by whatever means.

This is an entirely simplified version of what the story clock looks like, but in essence, what it means is that it is understood that we are attracted to stories and attracted to stories of this nature.

What's important about this is that that's how humans like to communicate. Once you understand that stories are so important, then you can learn how best to tell your story or the story you want to tell to people.

Then you can win.
